“Two in One” Dipping Glaze is Lead-free, non-toxic and food safe. It comes in a concentrate to save on delivery charges and making it easier to transport with the reduced weight. The glaze is made up very easily by just adding 1 Gallon of water to the 1 Gallon tub or 2.5 Gallons of water to the 2.5 Gallon tub (slightly warm works best) . Then mix it with an electric paint paddle or use a new toilet brush. The glaze is for earthenware Bisque or Clay and can be fired to Cone 06 (999 degrees C) or Cone 05 (1138 degrees C).
The higher you fire your items the harder wearing they will be so utility ware is better fired to Cone 05. Also non-leaded Glaze looks better at 05.
To glaze you items you should dip them in and out of the bucket very quickly only once. Do not double dip in two halves. The use of dipping tongs works better for a more professional finish. The glaze will dry in seconds.
The glaze has a blue food dye in it so you can see if you have missed any areas after dipping. The item will dry to a very pale blue and sometimes a little purple tinge if forced dried on a heater or kiln lid.
A good rule to follow;
Day 1 paint your item leave to dry overnight.
Day 2 glaze the item leave to dry overnight.
Day 3 fire you item overnight.
This will ensure a better glaze finish and your kiln will last you many years longer by allowing items to dry before firing. The glaze will need a little finger sanding before firing to remove any tong marks or runs as the glaze is Lead Free so does not run on firing.
The glaze will need thinning every so often as water will slowly evaporate off. 2 in 1 glaze is very economical and needs to be applied thinly. The glaze will do around half as much again as any other 5 gallon glaze on the market making it very economical. It is also made in the UK and helps save our Carbon Footprint. This glaze Fires to a beautiful white, clear shine.
There is no real shelf life and you can just keep topping it up as you need to.
“Ready to Go” Dipping Glaze has the same properties as the 2 in One, but it comes readymade with the blue dye, so you can see if you have missed anything. It fires to a beautiful white, clear shine.
The container is a full 5 or 1 gallon mix ready to pour into your bucket.
Note: Both glazes sell equally well and it is just a personal preference as to which you choose. We do suggest you have training before using any glaze or kilns as it will make a big difference to the finished result. Rachel does training on a 1 to 1 basis or in groups both in the North and South of England. Just refer to the Training page. Both glazes are sold worldwide into Schools, Colleges and Universities as well as Ceramic Cafes and Potteries.
